Bridge of o Pedrido Monument · Paderne, Betanzos, A Coruña The bridge do Pedrido crosses the ría de Betanzos in an arch and links the municipalities of Bergondo and Paderne, spanning the mouth of the Mandeo at a point where, for centuries, the two banks were connected only by a rowing-boat ferry service. Designed by the engineers Eduardo Torroja Miret, one of the great names of 20th-century Spanish construction, and César Villalba Granda to carry the road between A Coruña and Ferrol without hindering navigation, it was built between 1939 and 1942 and opened on 15 April 1943. More than 520 metres long, entirely of reinforced concrete, it is divided into three sections, the most emblematic being a large double arch supporting a 78.40-metre deck. It still serves the AC-164 road, although its narrowness has reduced its importance since the Atlantic motorway was built nearby. Photo: PepedoCouto (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Paderne
