Festival of o Viño Branco Lexítimo Activity · Paderne, Betanzos, A Coruña The Mostra do Branco Lexítimo has been held in Paderne since 2014, on the first weekend of July, in tribute to the branco lexítimo, a native white grape variety of Galicia considered the oldest in the country, traditionally grown on the slopes running down to the Mandeo and the Lambre. Cultivation nearly died out because of blight between the nineteenth century and the late twentieth, and its wines, with no recognised commercial name, stayed off the labels until 2011, when the Boletín Oficial del Estado officially registered the variety, thanks to the work of the Misión Biolóxica de Galicia of the CSIC. Today there are nine registered producers in Galicia, six of them in the Betanzos area itself, and the event has become the leading gastronomic celebration of this nine-parish concello.
