Church of San Xoán de Vilanova Monument · Miño, Betanzos, A Coruña A Romanesque church in the parish of Vilanova, in the municipality of Miño, in the province of A Coruña, whose construction around 1040 marked a decisive step in the introduction of the Romanesque style in Galicia and places it among the oldest churches on the ría de Betanzos. Its semicircular apse, covered with a quarter-sphere vault, is the first of its kind in Galician Romanesque architecture, and its style, of Lombard origin, links it to the basilica of San Martiño de Mondoñedo. The nave, covered with a gabled wooden roof, retains small windows beside the apse and openings in the south wall. It stands beside the roads that once ran down from Pontedeume to the ría, and on the route of the Camino Inglés to Santiago.
