The Festival de la Luz is a charitable and festive musical gathering organised on the initiative of the singer Luz Casal, born in Boimorto (A Coruña), with the collaboration of her home council. It is held at the end of August in the parish of Andavao over three days, and its entire proceeds are given each year to a different charitable cause, from the fight against cancer to Médecins Sans Frontières or oncological research projects. Born of an old idea of the artist's to pay tribute to rural Galicia, it held its first edition in 2012 with more than five thousand attendees, and has since grown with the support of sponsoring companies and the town council to bring together dozens of Galician and other Spanish musical groups in a municipality of barely two thousand inhabitants.
