What to see and do in Coria

Coria, la Cauria vetona
Village
12,001 inhabitants (INE 2025), the fourth most populous municipality in the province of Cáceres, at 264 m in altitude, with a municipal area of 103.46 km². It began as a Vettone settlement called Cauria; the Romans turned it into the municipium of Caurium after it received the ius Latii from Vespasian in the year 74. Its diocese dates back to Visigothic times; in 1957, following the 1953 Concordat, the Holy See split its see, giving rise to the present-day diocese of Coria-Cáceres.
Muralla romana de Coria
Monument
Gate of the town wall with Roman roots, although its current appearance dates from the medieval Muslim period. The city also preserves a cathedral whose main vault collapsed as a result of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.
Los Sanjuanes de Coria
Activity
Festival of bull runs and amateur bullfights in honor of Saint John, declared of Interés Turístico Nacional (National Tourist Interest) and of Extremadura.
Catedral de Santa María de la Asunción de Coria
Monument
Built between the 15th and 18th centuries on the remains of a former Visigothic church, predominantly Gothic-Plateresque in style with Baroque elements added by Churriguera on the facade and doorways. It holds a relic of the tablecloth of the Last Supper.
Puente romano de Coria
Curiosity
Five-arch stone bridge that today crosses dry fields: centuries ago the Alagón river changed course through natural causes, leaving the bridge without a river beneath it.
