What to see and do in Ruanes

Ruanes, aldea de hidalgos
Village
82 inhabitants (INE 2025), 15.11 km². It may have been the Roman Rodacis, a station on the Antonine Itinerary on the way to Trujillo. In the 18th century it had, in proportion to its population, one of the highest concentrations of hidalgos (lower nobility) in Extremadura.
Casas señoriales de Ruanes
Monument
Large slate-and-brick houses attesting to the village's former wealth; the cemetery preserves chapels and family mausoleums belonging to families such as the Higuero, Ávila, and Regodón.
Venta señorial de Ruanes
Historical milestone
In 1628 King Felipe III ordered the sale of Ruanes to Juan de Chaves Orellana for 4,000 ducats per legua (league).
Posible origen romano de Ruanes
Curiosity
Some authors identify Ruanes with the Roman mansio of Rodacis, a stop on the Antonine Itinerary before reaching Trujillo.
