What to see and do in Mirandilla

Mirandilla
Village
Municipality of 1,232 inhabitants (2025) at 298 m altitude, 11 km from Mérida. Its founding is attributed, depending on the source, to settlers from Miranda de Ebro in the 13th century or to Portuguese colonists in the 14th; it was part of the Encomienda de Mérida. Part of its district lies within the Cornalvo Natural Park, next to the Roman dams of Cornalvo and Proserpina.
Romería de San Isidro
Activity
The village travels to the hermitage of San Isidro to celebrate the pilgrimage (romería) of the patron saint of farmers.
Casa del Marqués de la Encomienda
Monument
Old house linked to the encomienda of Mérida of the Order of Santiago, of which Mirandilla was part.
Los orígenes disputados de Mirandilla
Historical milestone
The sources disagree on the origin of the village: some attribute it to settlers who arrived from Miranda de Ebro in the thirteenth century, others to Portuguese settlers from Miranda do Douro in the fourteenth.
