Village
With 80 inhabitants (2025), it is the least populated municipality in the province of Badajoz. Located at 308 m altitude and about 13 km from Mérida, it belonged to the Encomienda de Mérida under the Order of Santiago; in 1842 it had 92 inhabitants. Its official name changed from 'Carrascalejo' to 'El Carrascalejo' in 1916. The parish church is dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Consolación.

Curiosity
With barely 80 inhabitants (2025), El Carrascalejo is the least populated municipality in the entire province of Badajoz. Until the 1916 place-name reform it was simply called "Carrascalejo", without the article.
