Castillo de Capilla Monument · Capilla, La Serena, Badajoz Rock-set fortress of Muslim origin, with an irregular polygonal plan and six cylindrical towers, which commanded the routes between Mérida, Sevilla, Córdoba, Almadén and Toledo. Rebuilt in 1236 by Fernando III after the conquest of Córdoba, it passed to the Order of the Temple until 1312 and then to the Order of Alcántara, becoming part of the House of Béjar in the 15th century. It was declared Monumento Histórico-Artístico (Spain's heritage designation in force between 1931 and 1985) in 1933 (today a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection)). It survives in ruins but can be visited. 1933 (declaración como monumento histórico-artístico) Photo: Adolfobrigido (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Capilla
