Archbishop's Palace of Villar del Arzobispo Monument · Villar del Arzobispo, Los Serranos, Valencia Image of Villar del Arzobispo, not of the place itself. The Archbishop's Palace of Villar del Arzobispo, in Gothic-Renaissance style, was built between the 14th and 17th centuries as the summer residence of the archbishops of Valencia; it served this purpose until Mendizábal's disentailment in the 19th century, when it passed into civil hands. It preserves a monumental staircase with gravestones from a Roman cemetery embedded in the wall, and a doorway with the coat of arms of the House of Austria carved in black stone from Alcublas. Of the original complex, only the noble part of the building remains standing. Photo: José Benlliure y Gil (Public domain) What to see and do in Villar del Arzobispo
