Reservoir of Benagéber Nature · Benagéber, Los Serranos, Valencia The Benagéber reservoir lies on the Turia river, in the geographic heart of the comarca of Los Serranos (Valencia), with spectacular rock walls and a 110-metre dam that was once the tallest in Spain. The project, begun by engineer José Marqués to regulate the flow of the Turia and create irrigation in the Casinos-Llíria plain, was approved in 1931; work began in 1933, was halted during the Civil War, and resumed in 1940 with Republican prisoners redeeming their sentences through labour, finishing in 1955. Since then it has supplied water to Valencia and irrigates the Camp de Túria and l'Horta. It has a capacity of 221 cubic hectometres; near the dam is the small village of Benagéber, with barely 180 inhabitants. Photo: Daniel Cervera Miquel (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Benagéber
