The separation of Agullent from Ontinyent

With some 1,200 inhabitants and close to 300 houses, Agullent asked Felipe II to separate from Ontinyent. The Crown granted it in 1585 the status of royal universidad, with a council and justicias of its own, and the place went on to administer its own municipal district.
