Tower and Cistern of Xeraco Monument · Xeraco, La Safor, Valencia Image of Xeraco, not of the place itself. Historic tower and cistern of Xeraco, a testimony to the hydraulic and defensive heritage of the comarca of La Safor. The watchtower was probably built in the second half of the 16th century on the banks of the Vaca river to spot attacks by Berber pirates; it has a cylindrical plan, narrows towards the top, is 7.40 metres tall and was restored in the 1980s. The cistern, dating from the 19th century and inaugurated in 1888, is an underground barrel-vaulted, rectangular-plan reservoir, reached by a staircase, which today serves as a museum and exhibition space.
