Festivities of Polinyà de Xúquer Activity · Polinyà de Xúquer, La Ribera Baixa, Valencia Image of Polinyà de Xúquer, not of the place itself. The patronal festivities of Polinyà de Xúquer, in the Valencian region of the Ribera Baixa, are held in honour of Saint Sebastian on 20 January. The hermitage bearing his name, a simple 16th-century building, preserves a 1994 altarpiece that reproduces the original destroyed in 1936. The festive programme includes a fair known as a porrat (a traditional market held on the saint's feast day), mass and a procession in honour of the saint, the firing of rockets, and, the night before, a popular dance that opens the celebration.
