Iberian site of Kelin Nature · Caudete de las Fuentes, La Plana de Utiel-Requena, Valencia Former Iberian settlement of Caudete de las Fuentes, one of the most important archaeological sites in the area, known as Los Villares or the ancient city of Kelin. It was continuously inhabited from the 7th century BC to the 2nd-1st centuries BC, and covers about 10 hectares from the acropolis down to the Madre de Cabañas River. Elongated dwellings with stone plinths and adobe walls have been documented, along with remains of a wall, handmade pottery and Phoenician and Greek red-varnish imports; Kelin even minted its own coinage (asses and semisses) between the second half of the 2nd century and the early 1st century BC. Consolidated and restored in 2004, it forms part of the Ruta dels Ibers of the Diputación de Valencia and can be visited, with annual open-house days.
