La Llosa de Ranes Village · Llosa de Ranes (la), La Costera, Valencia La Llosa de Ranes is a municipality of the Costera comarca, in the Valencian Community, 60 kilometres from the provincial capital, with 3,765 inhabitants and an altitude of 106 metres; it lies at the foot of the sierra de Santa Anna, among the hills that separate the Costera from the Ribera. Its name probably comes from the Roman road toward Saetabis, Roman Xàtiva, referring to the flat stone slabs (llosas) that formed it, while “de Ranes” distinguishes it from other Llosas and refers to the vanished hamlet of Rahana, mentioned in the 13th-century Llibre del Repartiment. It is documented from 1373, when it is recorded as the hamlet of Berenguer Fort; in 1520 the local farmers bought it from a nobleman and it became crown land. The territory, mostly dry farmland, has a Mediterranean climate. Photo: Joanbanjo (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Llosa de Ranes (la)
