Hermitage of la Mare de Déu de Vallivana Monument · Picassent, L'Horta Sud, Valencia A neoclassical hermitage situated on the Plaza de la Ermita in Picassent (Valencia), recognizable by its dome covered in blue and white glazed tile, one of the landmarks of the municipal landscape and a Bien de Relevancia Local. Its façade, a tall two-tier frontispiece crowned by a cross, bears the inscription "Ermita de Nª Sª de Vallivana" and, above it, a tiled altarpiece depicting the Assumption of the Virgin amid cherubim and seraphim, remade after the war of 1936. The interior, from the first half of the 18th century, has a Greek-cross plan with a dome over the crossing; the altar, from 1947, is neo-Baroque. The transept preserves the memory of the procession of the Vallivana held in 1738 to ward off an epidemic, the origin of the patron saint's pilgrimage that still reaches the hermitage today. 1738 Photo: Julietdepica (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Picassent
