Llocnou de la Corona, Spain's smallest municipality Curiosity · Llocnou de la Corona, L'Horta Sud, Valencia Image of Llocnou de la Corona, not of the place itself. With barely 0.0128 square kilometers, about 12,000 square meters, Llocnou de la Corona is the smallest municipality in area in all of Spain, a title officially recognized by the Instituto Cartográfico Valenciano in November 2022, after taking it from another Valencian municipality, Emperador. It has 132 inhabitants according to the 2025 INE census, compared with 215 in the mid-19th century. It arose around a religious residence affiliated with the convent of the Crown of Jesus, founded in 1676, and became independent from Alfafar in the early 19th century. Its main building is the parish church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Neo-Gothic, built between 1899 and 1904 on the site of an old ermita.
