Frescoes of the Parish Church of Alcàsser Monument · Alcàsser, L'Horta Sud, Valencia Image of Alcàsser, not of the place itself. The parish church of Sant Martí d'Alcàsser, on Plaza del Castell, replaces a church that stood next to the old manorial castle and the mosque that, after the conversion of the moriscos in 1526, was adapted as a church. Baron Cristòfol Sanoguera funded the construction of the current building around 1590, which had to be rebuilt after a fire in 1708 and was extended in 1805 with the neoclassical dome and crossing. The presbytery and the vault preserve frescoes of San Martín de Tours and San Luis Beltrán, from 1808, attributed to Vicente López, chamber painter to the courts of Charles IV and Ferdinand VII. The dome, topped with blue and white ceramic tiles, was restored in 2002. 1808 Photo: Viquipèdia / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA) What to see and do in Alcàsser
