Hermitage of Santa Ana de Albal Monument · Albal, L'Horta Sud, Valencia The hermitage of Santa Ana stands on a hill west of Albal, in the area known locally as El Replà, within a park surrounded by pine woods. Its founding by the Chapter of the Cathedral of Valencia may date back to the 14th century, already documented in 1402; tradition places here the finding, in 1289, of the image of the saint in the hollow of an olive tree, from which a shoot still grows behind the church. The current building, from 1894 and in neo-Gothic style, preserves older elements at the rear; its brick façade is topped with a pointed pediment and a bell-gable, and the front atrium has pointed arches. The presbytery holds the image of Santa Ana with the Child Virgin, carved in alabaster in the 14th century; together with San Blas, she is patron saint of Albal.
