The Vallesa forest is a wooded area within the Turia Natural Park, on the last hills before the plains near the river's mouth, reached from San Antonio de Benagéber. Amid its vegetation it preserves the remains of a Roman-era aqueduct, the Bronze Age settlement of Loma de Betxí, and the fortified Visigothic hillfort of Valencia la Vella. After the major fire of 1994 that affected it, local residents and environmental groups organized to defend the forest, today protected within the natural park.
