Castle of el Xinquer

The castle of Xinquer stands on a rocky outcrop crowning a hill, next to the abandoned hamlet of Xinquer, in the deserted settlement of the same name within the municipality of Alcudia de Veo (Castellón); it is reached by a forest track branching off the road between Alcudia de Veo and Algimia de Almonacid. It follows the usual patterns and typology of Muslim fortresses, although the lack of documentation makes it impossible to determine its origin and dating with certainty. It is very deteriorated and in ruins, and only remains of a few walls and two towers are preserved; given its location, it probably served a function of defending and protecting the territory.
