Church of San Bartolomé de Vilanova d'Alcolea Monument · Vilanova d'Alcolea, La Plana Alta, Castellón The parish church of Saint Bartholomew, on the calle de l'Església in Vilanova d'Alcolea (Castellón), is listed as a monument of local interest. It stands on a terraced area known as el Planet, formerly a cemetery, and its entrance is flanked by two palm trees. The interior dates from 1707 and retains a Baroque altarpiece on the high altar by the Capuz brothers, while the façade, in Classicist style, was built around 1740; on its doorway, with a balustraded portico, stands the sculpture of Saint Bartholomew, the town's patron. The 36-metre-high bell tower, of cut stone, houses four bells, the oldest from 1820, the work of Francisco Guillem, and above them the mechanism of a wind-up clock from 1892, now out of service.
