The separation of Sant Joan de Moró Historical milestone · Sant Joan de Moró, La Plana Alta, Castellón Image of Sant Joan de Moró, not of the place itself. After proceedings begun in 1957 and a Supreme Court ruling in 1987, the hamlet separated from Vilafamés and became its own municipality in 1990, the youngest in the province of Castellón. Its history had until then been tied to that of its neighbouring town: Iberians, Romans, Muslims and Christians occupied these lands in succession, and the first trace of the settlement is to be found in the Castell de Moró, already documented in 1100 on the Tossal de Mollet, an Aragonese possession that formed part of the defensive belt of Montornés. 1990 Photo: XDSergio (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Sant Joan de Moró
