Hermitage of la Virgen de la Ortisella Monument · Benafigos, L'Alt Maestrat, Castellón Image of Benafigos, not of the place itself. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora la Virgen de la Ortisella lies about three kilometres north of Benafigos, on the so-called Camino de la Ermita, and is listed as a Bien de Relevancia Local (an asset of local heritage significance). The sanctuary, built in 1567, was extended with various sections added to the rear and left side of the church; its façade, painted white like the rest of the complex, bears a small bell-gable with the date 1657 and, at its base, between two faces symbolising the sun and the moon, the date of a further renovation in 1803. It has two bays with external buttresses and a small sacristy added in 1853, with a 20th-century guesthouse. Facing the church stands a centuries-old elm, and beside the shrine flow three springs - de Dalt, de Baix and de Darrere - to which curative properties are attributed.
