Hermitage of Santa Bárbara de La Salzadella Monument · La Salzadella, El Baix Maestrat, Castellón The hermitage of Santa Bárbara stands next to an old thoroughfare, now the road to Tírig, about 600 metres from the centre of La Salzadella, one of several minor sanctuaries in the municipality along with the hermitage of San Vicente Ferrer. It formerly received a pilgrimage from the residents of Tírig, until they built their own hermitage in 1603. The current temple, rebuilt over an earlier one of unknown origin, is documented from the late 17th century: with a rectangular plan of three bays and a barrel vault, it preserves baroque sgraffito painting, a portico with a voussoired door and an espadaña with a pediment. Its paintings were restored in the seventies and the roof of the portico in 1992. The liturgical feast day is 4 December, but it is celebrated with a sung mass on the nearest Sunday.
