Church of San Miguel Arcángel de Canet lo Roig Monument · Canet lo Roig, El Baix Maestrat, Castellón Church at the centre of the town, seat of a parish of the diocese of Tortosa, whose construction began around 1288 following a Gothic model with Romanesque survivals, reusing walls and a Romanesque doorway now walled up. It was renovated in the 16th century, possibly by Martín Mendoza, and in the mid-18th century was enlarged at the foot of the original temple, changing the main chapel; the work on the apse and the neoclassical transept with dome was completed in 1793. Of the original church, with a nave with a ribbed vault and chapels between buttresses, two doorways survive: one Gothic, undecorated, and another late Romanesque, walled up, which may have been the original entrance. The square bell tower ends in a balustrade. In 1998 the dome, then broken, was restored, in works completed in 2001. Photo: Columbusalbus (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Canet lo Roig
