Hermitage of la Virgen del Socorro de Càlig Monument · Càlig, El Baix Maestrat, Castellón Hermitage located a kilometre from Càlig, wrapped in a dense wooded setting. The first written reference to the invocation of the Virgen del Socorro dates from 1582, although of that first hermitage only a part survives, now built into the site's bar; the present sanctuary, in neoclassical style with pilasters topped by decorative ornaments, was raised in the last third of the 18th century. Inside it preserves frescoes of great colouristic beauty painted by J. Oliet in 1826. The site also has lodgings, wells and recreation areas. It is, according to its residents, the most beloved and emblematic place in Càlig. siglo XVIII Photo: Wikipedia / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA) What to see and do in Càlig
