Entrada de Toros y Caballos de Segorbe Activity · Segorbe, El Alto Palancia, Castellón La Entrada de toros y caballos is a popular festival of Segorbe that arose from the traditional driving of cattle to the square where they were to be run, declared Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional (Spain's highest category of tourist festival) and Bien de Interés Cultural Inmaterial (the highest level of protection for intangible heritage). It is held on the second Saturday of September at 2 p.m., with a bull run of about 40-45 seconds to the plaza de la Cueva Santa, in which six fighting bulls take part, driven by riders on horseback, with no barrier other than the human walls formed by the residents themselves. Its exact origin is unknown, although there is record of bull festivities in Segorbe as early as 1386, linked to the dedications of San Juan and San Pedro; the custom stemmed from driving the bulls from the pens located next to the river, more than a kilometre from the village.
