Castle and Tower of Sella Monument · Sella, La Marina Baixa, Alicante Image of Sella, not of the place itself. Sella Castle, known as the castle of Santa Bárbara, is of Islamic origin, from the 13th century, and its remains are preserved next to a hermitage dedicated to this saint, where festive processions are held in December; it was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) on 8 March 2001. The tower, from the 16th century and later than the Reconquista, is part of the old Palacio del Barón and is joined to later buildings on the municipality's plaza Mayor; it received the same declaration on 20 January 1997. Both elements reflect the history of Sella, from a prosperous Muslim population to its resettlement in the 17th century. Photo: ahysing (CC BY-SA 2.0) What to see and do in Sella
