Puig Campana Nature · Finestrat, La Marina Baixa, Alicante Puig Campana is a mountain of the Prebetic ranges located in the municipality of Finestrat (Alicante), 1410 metres high and the second-highest peak in the province. Separated from the Mediterranean by barely 7.8 kilometres in a straight line, it is the peak closest to the coast of the entire Iberian Peninsula, which, together with its distinctive profile, makes it visible from many points in the region. Its conical summit has two peaks separated by a great fissure known as El Portell, formed of Jurassic limestone rocks together with Cretaceous materials and, towards Finestrat, Triassic clays and gypsum. The wetter north face holds forests of maple, ash and strawberry tree, while on the sunny slope Aleppo pine and holm oak predominate. Included in the list of Sites of Community Importance since 1992, in 2006 it was declared a Protected Landscape together with the Ponotx.
