Castle of Confrides Monument · Confrides, La Marina Baixa, Alicante The castle of Confrides, also known as the castle of Alfofra, is a fortification of Islamic origin from the 13th century built in the upper Guadalest valley (Marina Baixa, Alicante), at 1,100 metres above sea level, the highest of a castle in the province. After the Christian conquest of 1264 by James I of Aragon it was rebuilt and passed through the Sarrià, Cardona and Ariza families; it played a prominent role during the Morisco revolts prior to the expulsion of 1609. In a ruined state, it preserves sections of the outer wall, a square tower, a circular tower, a crenellated inner enclosure and an arched gateway. Photo: No machine-readable author provided.
