Algar Springs Nature · Callosa d'en Sarrià, La Marina Baixa, Alicante Fuentes del Algar is a site of waterfalls and natural pools located three kilometres from the town centre of Callosa d'en Sarrià (Alicante), between the municipalities of Bolulla and Tàrbena. The 1.5-kilometre circuit follows the course of the Algar river - whose name comes from Arabic and means “cave” - through a limestone gorge shaped by karst erosion, with abundant Mediterranean vegetation. In summer the flow comes mainly from the springs at its source, whose water is then pumped to the Guadalest reservoir. The site was declared a protected wetland by an agreement of the Valencian Government of 10 September 2002, and today functions as a theme park on the importance of water as an ecological, economic and cultural resource.
