L'Alfàs del Pi Village · Alfàs del Pi, l', La Marina Baixa, Alicante L'Alfàs del Pi is a municipality in La Marina Baixa, in the province of Alicante, with 20,053 inhabitants, of whom around 56% are of foreign nationality, on the Mediterranean coast at the foot of the Sierra Helada. Its name comes from the Arabic al-faḥṣ, “the sown field”; it was called Alfaz until 1877, El Alfaz del Pino until 1887 and Alfaz del Pí from 1902. It arose from the founding charter granted by the Baron of Polop in 1786, when it was a scattered stretch of countryside along the coastal road, and was transformed from the 1960s onwards by a Norwegian community that came to have its own school, church and consulate. In its municipal area are the Roman villa of l'Albir, with baths among the best preserved in the province, and the Albir lighthouse, on the Serra Gelada. Photo: No machine-readable author provided.
