Pego-Oliva wetland Nature · Pego, La Marina Alta, Alicante The Marjal de Pego-Oliva Natural Park protects a 1,255-hectare wetland divided between the municipalities of Pego, in the comarca of La Marina Alta, and Oliva, in La Safor, declared a natural park in 1994. It stretches between the Racons and Bullent rivers, next to a dune system south of the Serpis river, and combines marshland and rice fields crossed by a network of old irrigation channels. Its origin is due to the silting-up of an old bay, which first became a lagoon and then, gradually, the present-day marsh, a stretch of reed beds with numerous pools of clean water.
