Peñón de Ifach Nature · Calp, La Marina Alta, Alicante A rocky massif 332 metres high that rises in isolation on the northern coast of Alicante, in the municipality of Calp, and forms one of the last spurs of the Baetic mountain ranges. Declared a natural park by the Generalitat Valenciana on 19 January 1987, with an initial area of 45 hectares enlarged to 53.3 in 2015, it is one of the symbols of the Costa Blanca. Its enormous limestone bulk drops abruptly towards the sea and remains joined to the mainland by an isthmus; it was used as a geodetic vertex for the triangulation of Spain. A path leads to the summit, from where on clear days Ibiza, Formentera and Cape Santa Pola can be seen. It harbours endemic rupicolous vegetation, such as the Ifach silene, the rock scabious and the Valencian horseshoe vetch. Photo: Diego Delso (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Calp
