Cave of les Calaveres Nature · Benidoleig, La Marina Alta, Alicante A cave in Benidoleig that houses an underground lake and archaeological remains that give it its name; between 1930 and 1950 an artificial gallery some 600 metres long was dug to reach it and to supply the population with water. The cavity, 440 metres long, lies on the north side of the Seguili, next to the road linking Pedreguer with Benidoleig, and owes its name to an 18th-century caving expedition that found there the bone remains of twelve people. It has a flooded section, from 240 metres to the end, and a dry one fitted out for tourist visits. Various expeditions, including that of the prehistorian Henri Breuil, have found flint tools and other archaeological remains dating from the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic there.
