Morisco origin of Benifallim Curiosity · Benifallim, L'Alcoià, Alicante Image of Benifallim, not of the place itself. Benifallim, of Muslim origin, was occupied by James I of Aragon in the mid-twelfth century. It belonged to the lordship of the Castelló family and, later, to that of the Count of Rótova. Its church became independent of the neighbouring parish in 1535. In 1572 it had 42 Morisco families, some 190 inhabitants, until the expulsion of 1609 struck the population hard, a demographic disaster from which the municipality never fully recovered: today it has barely 130 inhabitants.
