The patronal festivities of Sant Joan d'Alacant, from 20 to 24 June in honour of San Juan Bautista, plant their bonfires on the 18th and 19th and culminate on the 24th with a mascletà, a procession and the cremà of the festive monuments. The tradition of planting fogueres, begun in neighbouring Alicante in the 19th century and organised with its present-day features since 1928 based on the Falles valencianas, reached Sant Joan d'Alacant in 1969, among the first towns in the area to join the celebration.
