The church of Santa María de la Asunción in Planes, in the Alicante comarca of El Comtat, is the parish temple of the municipality, built on an old mosque that was never demolished and which is believed to have been used as the church's crypt, an uncommon case of coexistence between the Muslim and Christian construction phases under a single building. Rectangular in plan with three naves and a sacristy, it is covered by a ribbed Gothic vault. The temple has been recently restored.
