Cave of Or Nature · Beniarrés, El Comtat, Alicante Image of Beniarrés, not of the place itself. The Cova de l'Or is an archaeological site located on the south-western slope of the Sierra del Benicadell, above the valley of the River Serpis, at 650 metres of altitude, within the municipal district of Beniarrés (El Comtat, Alicante). It corresponds to a Neolithic settlement from the sixth millennium BCE, around 5600 BC, formed by an elongated chamber 24 metres deep by 8 metres wide. Discovered by Rafael Pardo Ballester during the surveys of 1933 and 1936, it was systematically excavated from the 1950s onward under Vicent Pascual Pérez, and later, between 1975 and 1985, with Bernat Martí Oliver. Plant and animal remains, ceramic, flint and bone tools, charred wheat and barley grains, and notable pottery decorated with cardial impressions have been found there.
