Church of San Miguel Arcángel de San Miguel de Salinas Monument · San Miguel de Salinas, El Baix Segura, Alicante The 18th-century parish church of San Miguel de Salinas, the only one in the area that did not collapse during the great earthquake of 1829. On the same site there was previously a hermitage, built in 1600 and demolished in 1689; the current church was completed in 1719, and in 1723, at the request of the residents, the Chapter of the church of El Salvador in Orihuela separated it as an independent parish. After the 1829 earthquake, which left the village in ruins, its slow reconstruction was aided by the bishop of Orihuela, Félix Herrero Valverde.
