Cuevas del Rodeo Nature · Rojales, El Baix Segura, Alicante Image of Rojales, not of the place itself. Las Cuevas del Rodeo are a group of cave dwellings dug into the hills that close off the town of Rojales to the south, in the comarca of El Baix Segura. Most of the caves and cave houses of Rojales were dug between the 18th and 19th centuries and the first decades of the 20th, in response to the land distribution of the Ancien Régime and the population growth linked to agricultural expansion. Since 1991, a rehabilitation plan driven by the town council and the Cultural Heritage Service turned the complex into an ecomuseum with fifteen craft workshop-caves and exhibition rooms, where courses, concerts, fairs and exhibitions devoted to the arts and craft trades are organized.
