La cripta románica de San Martín de Unx Monument · San Martín de Unx, Zona Media, Navarra The church of San Martín, the oldest of the three the town once had, was built in the 12th century and consecrated to Santa María and San Martín on 3 November 1156. Beneath its apse, to overcome the slope of the terrain, a monumental crypt was built, reached by a spiral staircase: six large columns support capitals with wild beasts baring their jaws, leaves, and bearded human heads, in one of the most singular Romanesque ensembles in Navarre. 3 de noviembre de 1156 Photo: Ángel M.
