El monasterio de Santa María la Real de Irache Monument · Ayegui/Aiegi, Tierra Estella, Navarra A monastery of uncertain origin, already documented in 958 and run by the Order of Saint Benedict, which became one of the most influential on the Camino de Santiago and maintained Navarre's first pilgrims' hospital. Between 1569 and 1824 it functioned as a university, with five faculties; today it preserves a 12th-century Romanesque church, a Plateresque cloister and a Herrerian tower. 958 Photo: PMRMaeyaert (CC BY-SA 3.0 es) What to see and do in Ayegui/Aiegi
