El monasterio de Santa María la Real de Iranzu Monument · Abárzuza/Abartzuza, Tierra Estella, Navarra A Cistercian monastery founded in 1176 after these lands were donated by the bishop of Pamplona, Pedro de París, to his brother Nicolás, on the site of an earlier Benedictine priory. It came to hold property in more than a hundred and twenty settlements; seized in the disentailment of 1839, it lay in ruins until its restoration began in 1942 under the Institución Príncipe de Viana. Since 1993 it has been inhabited by Theatine fathers, who maintain a seminary there. 1176 Photo: Theklan (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Abárzuza/Abartzuza
