What to see and do in Urdiain

Urdiain
Village
A medieval settlement of the Burunda valley. A local tradition, now questioned by historical research, places the proclamation of Íñigo Arista as the first king of Navarre at the hermitage of San Pedro de Urdiain. In 1498, the municipality was exempted by royal decree from paying the medieval "gailurdirua" tribute.
Los momoxarros de Urdiain
Activity
The carnival of Urdiain keeps alive the tradition of the "momoxarros," masked figures who took to the streets every year even during the Franco-era ban. The village also celebrates San Pedro on the Sunday following 29 June, sharing the date with neighboring Alsasua.
