The new district of Beriáin grew from the 1960s around Potasas de Navarra (PDN), a mining and chemical company that at its peak employed some 2,000 workers and built schools, housing and medical services for them. On 4 December, the feast of Santa Bárbara, patron saint of miners, the town holds processions in traditional mining costume.
