Church of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua Monument · Villar del Olmo, Las Vegas, Madrid One of the finest examples of rural Romanesque architecture in the Comunidad de Madrid, dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, when the Tajuña valley was a frontier land. It is under the invocation of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua; in the second half of the 16th century the transept was added, giving it a Latin-cross plan, and in 1908 the chapel of the Purísima Concepción was built inside. The historian Juan Ortega Rubio described it in his work Historia de Madrid y de los pueblos de su provincia, published in 1921. Photo: Dirección General de Turismo.
