Church of San Juan Bautista de Valdaracete Monument · Valdaracete, Las Vegas, Madrid Temple built between 1593 and 1607, in a late Renaissance of Herrerian style that tradition attributes to Juan de Herrera, the architect of El Escorial, under the patronage of the Duke of Infantado, lord of the town. It has a Latin-cross plan, a single nave with a marked transept, and a bell tower that dominates the hamlet of the Madrid páramo; the spire was added after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755. The façades are of reinforced masonry with ashlar at the corners, plinths, lintels and mouldings. Inside is preserved a choir raised at the foot of the church on three stone arches and a baptismal font that may come from an earlier medieval temple.
